I muse a lot. Lately I've been musing about Obama's presidency and all the myriad aspects of it. I feel so good when I see and hear him and am relieved that I have a president who represents me that I can be proud of. So how do I reconcile that with the aspects of what he is doing that I don't understand? Such as escalating the war in Afghanistan; taking single-payer health care off of the table; installing the financial titans largely responsible for our economic collaspe as leaders of the "fix"?
When I sit with this incongruity I get the image of Obama volunteering to go straight into the belly of the beast on a hero's task to reclaim our country's soul and integrity. We hired him to do this for us. I can only imagine that there are few individuals alive that would be capable of this task.
So what to do? Obama repeatedly told us this is about us, not him. Our job is not to disparage him or pull our support, but rather remind him of who he is, what his promise to us is, and do what we can to support him to do the job that we hired him to do.
I have decided that the best thing for me to do is to keep feeding him the vision that we all share and reminding him what we hired him for. I also like Alice Walker's letter to the president: http://www.thenation.com/blogs/state_of_change/382904
What do you think?
